8 Things You’ll See at Utah Pride Festival 2015

Once a year, every Summer, Utah comes together to celebrate Equality and Pride. I’m not talking about Fourth of July. I’m talking about the Utah Pride Festival!

This weekend (June 4-7th) Washington and Liberty Squares will be celebrating LGBT pride with an estimated 35,000 people. If you’re looking for something exciting to be apart of or just an all around good time check out this years festival!

Here’s a list of some people and things you might see this year:

1. Janet Mock

Janet Mock has been announced as this year’s Grand Marshal and will be kicking off the event with the Grand Marshal Reception. The reception is set to begin at 6:30pm at the main stage. Tickets are $50 and hors doeuvres, desserts and a cash bar will be present.

2. Rallies

This year Pride Festival will host the first unified Dyke, Trans*, Sexually Fluid, and Poly Rally. The event will start at 6pm on Friday at The Capitol and participants and speakers will march to Liberty Square. Speakers include, Ella Mendoza, Dani Hawkes, K Lu Quibelle, Shauna Brock, Isaac Furniss and Ford Neville.

3. MinX

The first annual Utah Pride Festival Opening Ceremony will feature drummers, colors, fire, and a flag ceremony! Following the ceremony Pride will throw a Kick-off Party, featuring the amazing MiNX.

4. DEV

The rapper DEV is set to headline on main stage, Saturday night at 8pm.

5. Dancing

Following DEV at Main Stage Pride is throwing a 2 hour dance party that will have participants on their feet! The party will be hosted by DJ Erik Floyd.

6. Pride Day 5k Fun Run

Sunday June 7th, at 9am particpants can join in on the 5k Fun Run. Participants will start the race on the side street Edison St facing North (Bar X on 200 S). Pre-registration is $35 and day-of registration is $40. Costumes are highly encouraged!

7. Pride Parade

The 2015 Utah Pride Festival Parade is already sold out! This years parade will include entries from local clubs, social groups, political groups, local businesses, bars and clubs! This is perhaps the most electrifying event of the weekend. The parade is scheduled to kick-off at 10am Sunday morning.

8. Xelle

The final day of the festival will include a headline performance by Xelle. Xelle is a an all girl group that threw an illegal dance party on a moving NYC subway train. The show will be fun to say the least.
