It’s National Laugh Day, National Certified Nurses Day, National Chocolate Caramel Day, and National Poultry Day. (more information at national day) Happy Birthday actor Bruce Willis turning 63 today and Harvey Weinstein is unhappily celebrating his 66th.

It Happened On This Day In Country Music History

2000 Dixie Chicks fifth studio album Fly was at #1 on the country album charts. The album debuted and peaked at #1 on the Billboard 200 and has now sold over 10 million units.  The album included singles “Ready to Run” with “Cowboy Take Me Away”and “Goodbye Earl”

2007 Lonestar lead singer Richie McDonald announced plans to depart the group at the end of the year, in search of a solo career.  The solo career showed little success and he rejoind the group in 2011 and they are said to be living happily ever after.  They will be at Country Fan Fest in July (link here for tickets and Eagle Camp Sites)

2010 Josh Turner was at #1 on the Country singles chart with “Why Don’t We Just Dance”, released in August 2009 as the lead-off single from his album Haywire. The song became Turner’s third #1 hit.

Country Music Fun Fact

During his college years George Strait joined the country band Stoney Ridge, answering a flyer the band posted around campus looking for a new vocalist. Strait later renamed the group the “Ace in the Hole Band”.
