Fun Fact

70% of Americans plan to celebrate Cinco de Mayo, but only 10% of us know WHAT we’re celebrating.  The most common answer in a new poll was that it’s Mexican Independence Day, which is wrong.  Just 1 in 10 knew it’s actually the anniversary of Mexico’s victory over France at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

It Happened On This Day In Country Music History

1959 Happy Birthday Randy Travis born on this day in Marshville, North Carolina.   Singer and actor since 1985, he has recorded 20 studio albums and charted over 20 #1 hits.  Travis broke through in the mid-1980s with the release of his album Storms of Life, which sold more than three million copies.

1976 Mickey Gilley had the #1 song on the country singles chart with “Don’t the Girls All Get Prettier at Closing Time”.  The song became Gilley’s fifth #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart.

1992 Aaron Tippin was at #1 on the US Country charts with, “There Ain’t Nothin’ Wrong with the Radio”. The fourth single of his career, it was also the first release from his second album, 1992’s Read Between the Lines. The song was not only the first #1 hit of his career, but also his longest-lasting, at three weeks.

1994 Happy Birthday Raelynn   Country singer who got her start on Team Blake on “The Voice”.  Her biggest success came in 2014 with “God Made Girls” which reached #7 on the country charts.  “Love Triangle” in 2016 reached #27.  Her latest single “Queens Don’t”

 

1996 Canadian singer Shania Twain scored her third #1 country hit with “You Win My Love”, the fifth single released from her 1995 album The Woman in Me. The song was written solely by producer Mutt Lange, making it one of the very few Shania songs which she did not co-write.

 

2006 Rascal Flatts were at #1 on the Country charts with their fourth studio album Me and My Gang which became the best selling country album of 2006. Singles released from this album included “What Hurts the Most”, which was a #1 hit followed by the title track (which reached #6), and then the #1 hits “My Wish”.
