1958 Jerry Lee Lewis is at the #1 spot on the Billboard country singles chart with “Great Balls Of Fire”

1959 Happy Birthday David Lee Murphy  born on this day in Herrin, Illinois. Best known for  “Dust On The Bottle,”  As a songwriter, he pens several hits for other acts, including “Big Green Tractor,”                     “Are You Gonna Kiss Me Or Not” and “Living In Fast Forward”

1974 Happy Birthday John Rich  born on this day in Amarillo, Texas. After a stint with Lonestar, he re-emerges in 2004 as one-half of Big & Rich best known for “Save A Horse Ride A Cowboy”. He also writes hits for other acts, including Gretchen Wilson’s, Faith Hill, and Jason Aldean.

1978 Johnny paycheck’s “Take This Job And Shove It” is at #1 on the Billboard country singles chart.

1979 Don Williams reaches #1 on the Billboard country chart with “Tulsa Time”

1980 Kenny Rogers kicks off a three-week run at the top of the Billboard country charts with “Coward Of The County”

1983 Warner Bros. releases John Anderson’sSwingin” to country radio.

1985 George Strait goes to #1 on the Billboard country singles chart with “Does Fort Worth Ever Cross Your Mind”

1990 Sawyer Brown lead singer Mark Miller marries makeup artist Lisa Knight, the sister of former “Brady Bunch” star Christopher Knight, in Los Angeles.

2007 Brad Paisley makes a move to #1 in the Billboard chart with “She’s Everything”
