Kacey Musgraves called Texas’ attack on the LGBTQ community “very shameful,” while being interviewed by PEOPLE at the 2022 GLAAD Media Awards on Saturday, April 2.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s February letter asked that gender-affirming care for transgender minors be investigated as “child abuse.” Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has also stated that medical treatments like puberty-suppressing drugs and hormones for transgender teenagers should be investigated.

A bill was signed prohibiting transgender students K-12 from participating in sports that align with their gender identity.  Musgraves grew up in Mineola, eighty miles east of Dallas. “I’m very proud to be a Texan, but I don’t like how the state has handled anything in that category, to be honest, and I just think that we can do better,” said Musgraves.

How do you feel about Texas and Florida implementing policies and laws against the LGBTQ community?
